From software design to freight brokerage

I started in freight brokerage in 2024, and it didn't take long to see where the process slows people down. Quote requests come in through different channels, load details get re-entered, follow-up depends on memory, and too much time gets spent clicking between systems instead of actually managing freight.

My background is in software and application design going back to 1993. Early in my career, I helped design one of the first online futures-trading platforms, including what became the second online trading program built for the futures market. That experience taught me how to take complicated, time-sensitive workflows and turn them into systems that are faster, clearer, and easier to use.

When I entered freight, I naturally started doing the same thing.

I built Freight Command Center to streamline the work from the moment a quote request comes in through load creation, carrier coverage, customer communication, tracking, delivery, and follow-up. I created structured workflows, automation, detailed communication templates, tracking tools, and load-management systems designed to keep important details from falling through the cracks.

In my experience, some administrative processes that can take 5 to 15 minutes in a traditional workflow can often be handled in seconds or around a minute inside FCC. Actual timing depends on the task and the information available; these are workflow observations, not a guarantee of load coverage or delivery speed. Just as important, the goal is not simply speed. It is consistency, accuracy, visibility, and staying ahead of the load instead of reacting to it.

That combination of freight brokerage and decades of software design is what led to Freight Command Center. I wanted a better way to work — one that helps me respond faster, stay organized, communicate more clearly, and give shippers a more dependable experience from quote to delivery.

For me, the software is not a separate product sitting beside the brokerage. It is the operating system behind how I manage freight.
