The short answer
Load for the order the freight will come off, not only for the easiest pickup. Keep each stop grouped and accessible without sacrificing weight distribution or securement.
What to check, in order
- Final stopPlace later-delivery freight deepest in the trailer when practical.
- Middle stopsKeep each stop grouped instead of mixing pallets throughout the trailer.
- First stopKeep the first delivery accessible near the doors.
- Weight distributionDo not create a nose-heavy, rear-heavy or side-heavy load just to preserve stop order.
- SecurementControl open space after each partial unload.
- Paperwork and labelsMake each stop easy to identify before the doors open.
The basic loading order
A simple three-stop example is:
Trailer nose → Stop 3 → Stop 2 → Stop 1 → Doors
That is the operational concept.
It is not a reason to ignore weight placement.
Group freight by stop
Keep one stop's freight together where practical.
That reduces:
- Rehandling
- Wrong-stop unloading
- Time spent searching inside the trailer
- Risk of disturbing later-stop freight
Weight distribution can override the perfect stop sequence
Heavy freight still needs thoughtful positioning.
If the first stop contains the heaviest freight, loading everything at the rear may create a poor operating condition.
The final plan has to balance:
- Stop access
- Weight distribution
- Securement
- Trailer configuration
Open space appears after every stop
A tightly packed trailer can become a partial load after Stop 1.
That changes securement.
Load bars, straps, blocking or other appropriate restraint may need to control the remaining freight.

Pickup order can conflict with delivery order
When freight is collected at multiple origins, the warehouse sequence may make the perfect reverse-stop load impossible.
That needs to be identified before loading.
Possible solutions can include:
- Rehandling
- Cross-dock planning
- Different pickup sequence
- Different stop order
