Residential service applies when the carrier treats the physical address as a residence. A business name does not automatically make a home address commercial.

Describe the actual location.
- Say it is residential — if it is a home, apartment or similar site.
- Describe street access — turning room and restrictions matter.
- Confirm liftgate need — residential and liftgate are separate services.
Can freight be delivered to a residence?
Yes, many freight shipments can be delivered to residential locations, but the carrier needs to know the location type before booking. Residential service, liftgate service, inside delivery and limited-access service are separate requirements. Street access, turning room, pallet size, weight and how the freight will get from trailer height to the ground can all change the service needed. See liftgate service and inside delivery.
A home business can still be residential
TForce Freight defines a residence as a home and specifically includes a business operating out of a home. It also says an address that can be viewed as residential or commercial may be treated as a residence.
Street and property access matter
Let us know about narrow streets, low branches, steep grades, unpaved access, gates and limited turning room.
Estes publishes specific access restrictions for its own residential final-mile product. Those are service-specific, not universal industry limits.
Do not assume
- A company name makes a home address commercial.
- Residential automatically includes liftgate.
- Every carrier accepts the same streets, driveways or pallet sizes.
