Freight density calculator

Work out pounds per cubic foot for an LTL shipment.

Density is total weight divided by total cubic feet, measured across the greatest dimensions of the handling unit. It is one of the inputs to LTL classification, and the one you can calculate yourself.

Interior figures are nominal. Wheel wells, bulkheads, reefer equipment, load bars and individual trailer build all reduce usable space. Flatbed height is open, so height limits come from legal and permit rules rather than the trailer. These tools are for planning and estimating. Carrier rules, classification and usable capacity vary by carrier, equipment and commodity.

Not sure the calculator tells the whole story?

Send me the shipment details and I will work out the equipment, the space and the price, and tell you where the numbers above would have caught you out.
