Planning your dry bulk shipment
Describe the material clearly and give the weight you actually know, with the bulk volume in cubic feet if you have it. Confirm how the receiving site unloads before choosing equipment by trailer name alone.
The planner reviews the three dry bulk trailers in our equipment library: a pneumatic dry bulk tanker, an end dump and a hopper bottom trailer. The delivery unloading method decides between them: a pneumatic connection or silo, a gravity pit, or a dump site. Left as Not sure, all three stay in the review and the unloading method is listed as something to confirm. The weight is checked against each trailer’s published payload range; material compatibility and the receiving site are confirmed with the carrier and the receiver.
Bagged, boxed or palletized material is not loose bulk. Bags of cement stacked on pallets ship as pallets, so plan them on the pallet planner, or on the boxes and cartons planner when they travel as loose cartons.

What details matter before choosing dry bulk equipment?

Why does the unloading method matter?
The trailer has to discharge the way the receiver can take the material: through a pneumatic connection into a silo, through the bottom into a pit, or tipped at a dump site. If you are not sure, leave it as Not sure. The planner keeps every option in view and lists the method as something to confirm.
What if the material is in bags or on pallets?
Then it ships as packaged freight, not loose bulk. Use the pallet planner and enter the pallets as they will travel.
Does the dry bulk result include a freight rate?
