The short answer
Bundle length decides the equipment, and weather exposure decides the protection plan.
Do these first
Describe the bundles exactly as they will sit on the trailer.
- Give bundle length — the longest bundle drives deck choice.
- Give bundle weight — especially for mixed bundle sizes.
- State tarp requirement — say "must stay dry" before booking.
- Confirm unload equipment — the receiver needs equipment that can safely reach the bundle.
Bundle condition matters
Lumber should be presented in stable bundles with appropriate banding. Broken or loose bundles make safe loading harder.
Weather protection
Lumber tarps generally have deeper drops than steel tarps because lumber loads are often taller and more box-like. Tarp sizes vary by carrier and manufacturer.
Do not book by tarp name alone. Send the actual load dimensions and protection requirement.
Treated and untreated product
Tell the broker whether the product has surface treatment, a moisture-sensitive finish, packaging or wrap, and any required cover standard.
Send the bundle dimensions before the truck is chosen
Give me the longest bundle, weights, tarp requirement and unloading method so the equipment matches the product.
