What it costs

Your plan prices the published state components and names what a state decides case by case. These are the other charges a permitted move carries. FCC does not add a markup to them.

• State permit fee, per stateEach state sets it. Single-trip and extended-period permits price differently, and the amount can depend on approved miles, weight over the limit or dimension brackets. Your plan shows the published components and marks what the state determines case by case.

What to line up, in order

The sequence the guides follow. Work down it and nothing is left to find out at the gate.

1. Measure what will actually move: loaded overall length and width, and height from the road surface. Keep the freight measurements separate from the loaded configuration, and record who confirmed them.
2. Get gross weight, axle weights, axle spacing and front and rear overhang. Note attachments, and anything removed for transport.
3. Decide divisibility, and be ready to support it. Eligibility is the authority decision, not the shipper.
4. Fix the route end to end: the pickup gate, the local roads to the highway, the state highways, and the local roads to the delivery gate. List every state and local jurisdiction it touches.
5. For each state, identify the permit class you need and the variables its fee uses.
6. Confirm escorts separately: front, rear, height pole and police each have their own trigger.
7. Confirm whether a route survey, bridge analysis or utility coordination is required before the permit can be issued.
8. Check the travel window for your date in every route state: daylight, rush hour, weekend, holiday and seasonal restrictions, and the days around a holiday.
9. Obtain the local, toll, port and private-access approvals, and record who is obtaining each one.
10. Apply with enough lead time, then check the issued permit against the actual vehicle, configuration, dimensions, dates and authorized roads before dispatch.
11. Keep one shipment record. Re-check the whole movement when anything material changes, and get amendments from the authority rather than editing a permit.
